About the Artist

I have been interested in art from an early age. In school, I would oftentimes spend my time doodling instead of listening to my teachers. Born in Dallas, Texas, I graduated from Dallas Baptist University with a degree in biology. After a hiatus of many years from art, I began studying art at the Arkansas Arts Center, Museum School, in March 2001. Since then I have taken numerous classes and workshops from several professional artists. In the fall of 2007, I started taking studio art classes at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock - now I am a graduate student in Studio Art.

My Artist Statement

My artwork is an extension of my optomistic personality. It is a reflection of the postive attitude towards myself and others. My palette is filled with warm colors, mostly yellows and oranges, and cool greens and blues. I like to create tranquil soothing paintings that are filled with a sense of joy. I like art that has a child-like and playful quality. Some of my favorite artists are the abstract expressionists of the 1940s, such as Jackson Pollock, Arshile Gorky, Willem de Kooning and others. There is a freshness that is real and alive - their emotions explode upon their canvasses. My artwork is an experimentation and exploration into the creative and unseen realities. Each piece of art is a learning experience - one should never stop learning as an artist.
